Busy week in KC!

The first weekend of June is always a busy one in KC.

We hope to see all you fitness guru’s at the Hospital Hill Run on Saturday.  We will be there on site to provide screenings and promo items.  Come by our booth and say hey!

One of the best parties of the year is tomorrow night’s Jazzoo.  It will be fun to try out the new Sky Safari that is up and running! Make sure you take some time out and visit this new attraction.  For more info,  visit their site here.

Gay Pride is also this weekend at its new venue in the Power and Light District.  I am sure the new location will make for a great event, and the Battle of the DJ’s Saturday night will be big dance party!

Guadalupe Center hosted its Annual Stakeholder Luncheon today.  Several local elected officials, foundation officers, and corp execs attended to hear the news about the recent census data and how it relates to the growing Latino demographics.

Economic Happenings: The HHEDC just distributed the RFQ for our new urban redevelopment plan that will include a grocery store! This grocery store is one of many projects we will implement in order to help enhance the urban core. Many may not know it, but there is a “food desert” going on within Kansas City’s urban core. There are nearly 45,000 people within a 1.5 mile radius of Hospital Hill and to supplement all these people, there is one grocery store close to them.  In order to help with this problem, HHEDC is currently working to build a healthy grocery store using local producers and offering other health and wellness programs to help the urban core get and remain healthy.
